Answering Our Own Call of Duty
We started out back in 1956—a group of service members who saw that their enlisted brothers and sisters in arms weren't getting a fair deal—they had few affordable life insurance options, especially compared to those for officers. Our founders felt it was their duty to act—and created the not-for-profit Armed Forces Enlisted Benefit Association. It was a game-changer, leveling the playing field by sponsoring life insurance that enlisted service members could easily afford.
"I am very pleased to acknowledge that your organization speaks volumes on providing excellent service and for being customer-oriented. Special thanks to (Erica) for her professional knowledge and assistance so that I can maintain and continue my membership with a terrific organization and likewise, renew coverage as well with an excellent institution."
Sergeant First Class, US Army, MBA Member since 1998
Great benefits and caring member service helped us grow steadily into the 1960s. Always watching out for everyone who answers the call of duty, we offered membership to officers in 1963, and changed our name to Military Benefit Association (MBA).
Since then, we've added federal civilian employees, spouses, National Guard and Reservists, honorably discharged veterans and adult former dependents of MBA members. We've also expanded our benefits portfolio to sponsor health care coverage and a variety of non-insurance benefits.
But no matter how we change, we remain a not-for-profit organization, answering our own call of duty—more a mission than a business.
